How Can You Capture the Moment and Make it Last Forever?
The first article I published was in a small, upstate New York local newspaper.
It was, of course, about a dog.
His name was Mickey. The accompanying photographs that I took captured Mickey’s obvious joy and acknowledgment of his story-worthy talent.
He was balanced on an old rubber tire inner tube, riding the subtle waves off the shore of Lake Ontario.
It wasn’t a trick achieved through training or coaxing with treats. Mickey just saw there was fun to be had.
That image of Mickey is as vivid today as it was the day I took it.
Little did I know then that the chase for those elusive – and almost magical – canine images would become an almost daily ritual in my life.
Expressions of the pure joy that dogs seem to find in life’s most simple pleasures are my favorite subject: a scratch in just the right spot, their almost instinctive roll in the grass after a bath or swim, the way they chew on a newly-discovered stick, or playing with a favorite toy or friend.
These pleasures can be captured by clicking a camera’s shutter at that perfect moment.
It’s that simple. And that difficult.
